Security

The Historic West Bottoms Association is committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community. Below, you'll find information on our Security Committee, reporting guidelines, crime statistics, and resources like the WatchKC program.

Security Committee

The Security Committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month to discuss and address safety concerns in the West Bottoms. Please check the Events page for upcoming meeting details.

Reporting Unsafe Conditions and Crimes

Community engagement is critical. Be aware and look up. If you witness an incident:

  • For emergencies, call 911.
  • For non-emergencies, call 311.
  • If not ongoing, report to the KCPD dedicated number.

Community Security Cameras

City Cameras

City cameras aid traffic engineering and law enforcement via the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). They provide live/archived video for incidents like shots fired or burglaries.

Paired with license plate readers (LPRs), they cover all entry/exit points in the West Bottoms (33 HD cameras), aiding suspect tracking.

WatchKC Partnership

Register your cameras to help KCPD identify suspects and evidence. Locations are mapped; police contact you only if needed for nearby crimes.

No direct access without permission. 100% voluntary; opt out anytime.

Register at kcpolice.org/community/watchkc. Info confidential to KCPD.
