Envisioning the West Bottoms: Community Planning Presentation Draws Strong Turnout

On Friday, April 10, the Historic West Bottoms Association joined Kansas State University’s Community Planning Studio at Blip Coffee Roasters for Envisioning the West Bottoms, a community presentation and input session focused on the proposed comprehensive plan for the neighborhood.

The event brought together more than 30 stakeholders from the West Bottoms and the broader community, including property owners, business owners, planners, architects, and representatives from neighboring neighborhoods. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from K-State Regional and Community Planning students and provide feedback on the ideas, goals, and priorities shaping the future of the West Bottoms.

The presentation centered on a proposed vision for the West Bottoms as a vibrant, mixed-use district that honors its historic character while embracing thoughtful growth. Topics included housing, transportation, infrastructure, business growth, accessibility, historic preservation, and quality of life. The materials also invited participants to weigh in on which policies and action items should be considered the highest priorities for implementation.

Community input remains an essential part of this process, and the strong turnout reflected the deep interest in the future of the West Bottoms. HWBA appreciates everyone who attended, shared feedback, and contributed to the conversation.

We also extend our thanks to Kansas State University’s Community Planning Studio and its students for their work and engagement with the neighborhood.
